EFCC Begins Probe Of Amaechi's Administration

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has commenced probe on the administration of the immediate past governor of Rivers state, of Rotimi Amaechi.

According to a report by ThisDay, the probe comes after a Port Harcourt-based group, The Integrity Group, petitioned EFCC on July 29th, accusing the former governor of corruption, graft and abuse of office while he served as governor.

According to the petition filed by the  group, Governor Amaechi allegedly sold the Rivers State Electric Power projects and the revenue generated were converted to other uses through payments amounting to N60 billion to three companies all located at Trans Amadi, Port Harcourt.
The group also allege that the proposed Karibi Whyte Specialist Hospital in Port Harcourt which was initiated by the former governor, was a failed contract which cost the state a whooping N4.63 billion. They say the circumstances leading to the failure of the contract is questionable.

Suspected Gunman In Virginia TV Shooting Identified

Former reporter with WDBJ7 TV, Vester Lee Flanagan who was known on air as Bryce Williams, is suspected to have carried out the killing of TV journalist Alison Parker, 24, and Photojournalist Adam Ward during a live TV interview earlier today.

Flanagan who is said to be a disgruntled worker of the TV station, hours after the shooting, tweeted that Adam had reported him to HR and they replaced him with a female, hours after the shooting. He also claimed that Alison had made racist comments to him. He shot himself after he was confronted by police on a highway in Virginia but still alive. Television journalist Alison Parker, 24 and Photojournalist Adam Ward with WDBJ7 TV, were shot dead by a gunman today Wednesday morning August 26th around 6.45 am (local time) while reporting live on air at Bridgewater Plaza, Moneta, Virginia.

According to reports, the crew were carrying out an interview when gunshots were fired. Adam was first shot dead and Alison who graduated from college in 2012, was killed while trying to run. The lady they were interviewing is also said to be in critical condition in the hospital.

The gunman is at large but the cameraman captured the killer on camera as he fell after being shot as his camera was still running. See the photo and video after the cut...

The police on Thursday arraigned a part-time lecturer, Afeez Baruwa, for allegedly raping an 18-year-old admission seeker.

The 42-year-old lecturer who said the accusation was false and the act was consensual was arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on Thursday.

President Buhari Begins Probe Of Jonathan’s Govt

According to reports, total probe of the administration ran by immediate former president, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is underway as the National Economic Council, NEC, Ad-hoc Committee on the Management of Excess Crude Account Proceeds and Accruals into the Federation Account, headed by the Governor of Edo State, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, is to hire two international forensic audit firms to probe revenue that accrued into the Federation Account and how it was spent under former Dr Goodluck Jonathan as President.

Mr. Oshiomhole told journalists at the end of the first meeting of the committee in Abuja, yesterday that the auditors would cover the period January 1, 2010 to June 1, 2015. It put paid to calls by the opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, that Buhari should extend his probe to the administrations of Jonathan’s predecessors, Alh. Umaru Yar’ Adua.and Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

At least 31 people have been confirmed dead after two Indian passenger trains derailed. 

The trains derailed within minutes of each other on flooded tracks on a bridge in central India in Madhya Pradesh. The Kamayani Express was en route to Mumbai when it derailed around midnight on Tuesday night near the town of Harda in Madhya Pradesh state while the second train, the Janata Express, was travelling in the opposite direction and derailed soon after. 25 people were injured and another 300 rescued.

South African First lady Nompumelelo Ntuli-Zuma has reportedly admitted to knowing about a plot to poison the president.
