Former Iowa State University scientist who altered blood samples to make it appear he had achieved a breakthrough toward a potential vaccine against HIV was sentenced on Wednesday to more than 4 ½ years in prison for making false statements in research reports.

According to Daily Mail, Dong-Pyou Han, 58, must also pay $7.2 million to a federal government agency that funded the research. He entered a plea agreement in February admitting guilt to two counts of making false statements. Government prosecutors said Han's misconduct dates to 2008 when he worked at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland under professor Michael Cho, who was leading a team testing an experimental HIV vaccine on rabbits.

Leading Telecommunications Services provider, Airtel Nigeria, has announced the commencement of the fifth edition of Airtel Rising Stars (ARS) U-17 male and female tournament, a grass-root football talent hunt programme aimed at identifying and nurturing budding soccer talent in the country.

At a press briefing held in Lagos on Wednesday to announce the tournament, the Telco also announced ex Super Eagles stars, Mutiu Adepoju, Jonathan Akpoborie and former Falcons Goalkeeper, Ann Chiejine, as the technical advisers for the tournament.

A Nigerian man simply identified as Chinedu (pictured above) died this week after jumping from the 3rd floor of his apartment building at Mutari Sadangi in Malaysia as immigration/Malaysian police invaded his building.

Chinedu, said to be from Ani Oma in Delta state, was rushed to the hospital after landing head first. He later died in hospital from internal injury. 'I Don't Want To Say She Knows How To Lie With Statistics' - Oshiomole Replies Okonjo-Iweala

Edo state Governor Adams Oshiomhole has replied former Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala who yesterday denied allegations he made that she she spent N2.1 billion from the Excess Crude Account without authorization from members of the National Economic Council.

Speaking on Channels TV this morning, Governor Oshiomole said;
"I think with all due respect to former Minister Okonjo Iweala, she knows how to play around, I don't want to say lie with statistics. I have made this point that she keeps opening only parts of the pages and not the entire book. The logic of transparency is that the honorable minister must publish in full what is accruing to the federation account month to month and what is distributed to who?

Photos: 100 Killed After Indonesian Military Plane Crashes Into Residential Area

No fewer than 100 people were killed after an Indonesian military plane, C-130 Hercules carrying 113 passengers crashed into Medan, the third largest residential area in Indonesia.

According to Indonesia's Air force chief, Air Marshall Agus Supriatna, the pilot told the control tower that the plane needed to turn back because of engine trouble. "The plane crashed while it was turning right to return to the airport," Supriatna said.

Okonjo-Iweala Replies Oshiomole Over Allegations She Spent $2.1bn Oil Fund Without Approval

The immediate past Minister of Finance Ngozi Okonjo Iweala has responded to allegations that she spent $2.1 billion from the Excess Crude Account without the approval of the National Economic Council.

While speaking  to newsmen after the inauguration of the National Economic Council yesterday June 29th, Governor Adams Oshiomole  accused the former minister of spending  $2.1 billion from the Excess Crude Account without the necessary authorization.

"We looked at the numbers for the Excess Crude Account. The last time the former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, reported to the council, and it is in the minutes, she reported by November 2014 that we had $4.1 bn. Today, the Accountant-General Office reported we have $2.0bn. Which means the honourable minister spent $2.1bn without authority of the NEC and that money was not distributed to states, it was not paid to the three tiers of government,” Adams Oshiomhole said.

CBN Extends Deadline For BVN Registration To October 31st

It has been confirmed that the Central Bank of Nigeria has extended the deadline for the Bank Verification Number, BVN, registration to October 31st. 

The Apex bank had earlier fixed yesterday June 30th as the deadline for the registration. Hopefully, Nigerians will now be able to complete their registration before the new deadline elapses.

Governor Aregbesola Pays Osun Workers December 2014 Salary

It has been confirmed by the Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress in Osun state, Mr. Jacob Adekomi that Governor Rauf Aregbesola has approved the payment of December, 2014 salaries of workers in the state.

The Governor also approved the payment of 30% outstanding balance of November salaries to workers who were not fully paid the November, 2014 salaries. However, the NLC Boss has confirmed that workers would not suspend their strike action despite the payment of one month salary out of the seven months salaries they are being owed.
