The Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board has reportedly banned the screen adaptation of Chimamanda Adichie’s award-winning novel, Half Of A Yellow Sun which has been premiered in Nigeria.. The movie was reportedly banned because of its focus, which is the Nigerian Civil War, and the fear that it might incite tribal sentiments, especially the ones that lead to the war.

Half of a Yellow Sun is a 2013 Nigerian drama film directed by Biyi Bandele and based on the novel of Adichie. The film is a love story that follows two sisters who are caught up in the outbreak of the Nigerian Civil War and stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, Onyeka Onwenu, Genevieve Nnaji and OC Ukeje.

But according to a source, the film promoters are making frantic efforts to remove the offensive sections and get the film approved. The filmmaker further revealed that, “with the Boko Haram insurgency and the Adamawa State governor’s outburst, the NFVCB is living up to its billing.”
