It has been announced that Grammy Award-winning R&B star Ne-Yo will perform at the upcoming MTV Africa Music Awards on July 18 in Durban, South Africa, to promote his sixth studio album, “Non-Fiction.”
The Mamas, as the awards are known, were revived last year after a three-year hiatus and aired live in 48 countries, including for the first time across sub-Saharan Africa on multiplatform network MTV Base. They also trended globally, including in the U.S., on Twitter.
Airplay plan is similar this year, with a special Mama-themed edition of MTV’s acclaimed World Stage franchise also set to air globally on MTV channels around the world on August 27.
“We are thrilled to have Ne-Yo join us in Durban,” enthused Bruce Gillmer, EVP of music, talent programming and events at Viacom International Media Networks, in a statement.”He’s an incredible artist that will elevate the Mama to new highs.”
“Ne-Yo is an all-round class act who will greatly complement the African performers on the show,” added Alex Okosi, senior VP and managing director at VIMN Africa.
The event, sponsored by the KwaZulu-Natal Province in association with Absolut Vodka and in partnership with the City of Durban, will take place at the Durban International Convention Centre.
