Africa's first and biggest reality TV show, Big Brother Africa (BBA), has been reportedly cancelled and may not hold this year as envisaged.
The BBA no-show has been attributed to lack of sponsorship as organizers - Africa Magic and Endemol - have been unable to get sponsors for the 2015 edition of the hugely controversial reality TV show.
The Manager of Multichoice Ghana, Anne Sackey, confirmed to a Ghanaian newspaper that they have received notice from MNET that this year' BBA will not be taking place.
Although Sackey explained that MNET did not give them any reasons as to why Big Brother Africa will not hold this year, she expressed the opinion it could be due to sponsorship constraints.
The BBA doesn't have a fixed sponsor as different brands have one time or the other sponsored the show, which is a favourite among many African youths.
"They didn't give us any reason though, but I think it's mainly because of cash constraints as we all know the show is very expensive to put up", she was quoted as telling the newspaper.
The 2014 edition (BBA Hotshots) was won by Tanzania's Idris while Nigeria's Tayo Faniran, emerged runner-up.
