Rihanna's 'Cracked Selfie Phone' Reaches eBay Bids Of Up to $58K And Still Counting

The phone dropped by Rihanna during a basketball match in Los Angeles last Friday has fetched bids of $58,000 after being placed on eBay. Singer Rihanna attended a basketball match in Los Angeles where she allegedly dropped the phone of Los Angeles Police Commission President Steve Soboroff, who requested for a selfie. The bad fall damaged Soboroff's protective cover and screen and out of shame, the singer decided to donate $25000 to a charity fund for police officers. Meanwhile, Soboroff, whose phone was signed by Rihanna herself, decided to place the device up for auction on eBay, and the bids have gone through the roof since then.

By Thursday, the phone had already reached $57,000, according to Mail Online's report. After the incident on Friday, Rihanna and Soboroff exchanged a few messages on Twitter, with the "Diamonds" singer saying, "Sorry I broke your phone @SteveSoboroff J"

The 65-year-old Soboroff has since then updated his followers and was one of the first to confirm the news that Rihanna will be donating a massive $25,000 to charity. Soboroff wrote, "BIG @rihanna news: she's donating $25,000 to @LAPoliceFdtn for cadets & families of fallen officers."

The good news was well-received by Rihanna's fans who admired the singer for her bold move. Soboroff also broke the news about his decision to sell his broken mobile phone but confirmed that he will not keep the money for himself. Rather, Soboroff intends to use the funds for a good cause as well.

On eBay, Soboroff explained" "I asked her to take a selfie with me wearing LAPD wristbands to show support for our officers. Rihanna took the phone from me and wanted to take the selfie herself! While she was taking our selfie, she dropped the phone and the screen cracked!"

Soboroff confirmed that half of the money raised from the auction will go directly to LAPD's Cadet program, while the other half will go straight to the Los Angeles Police Memorial Foundation to support the families of fallen officers.
