Lil Wayne Reveals Why He’s Retiring From Rap Music

Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne has famously said that his next studio album will be his last, he says he was just 13 when he started rapping for Cash Money. In a preview for Katie Couric‘s talk show Katie though, he emphasized how he wants to retire at age 35 if not sooner. “Oh, I know I’ll be able to retire at 35, ’cause I’m so ready to retire now,” he said.

The New Orleans rapper, now 30, last talked of retirement after he suffered multiple seizures last spring. Late night host Jimmy Kimmel tried to make light of his life by joking that Dr. Dre is his physician and pointing out how pop stars do regular things before they retire, which a weary but good-natured Weezy said he wants to do more than anything.

At Katie though, Wayne said that he was most looking forward to being with his kids and doing well, whatever. “I don’t want to be no influence like, ‘Hey you must do this’ or ‘Hey you must do that,’ because I didn’t have that, and so because I didn’t have that, I grew up to be exactly what I wanted to be and how I wanted to be.”
