Nigerian entertainment entrepreneur and HipTV’s founder, Ayo Animashaun in an interview with NET talked on how he built the popular Nigerian urban contemporary music and lifestyle channel, HipTV into one of the leading music channels in Africa while celebrating the 2nd anniversary of the channel's debut on DSTV, yesterday, November 5, 2015.
According to 45-year old Ayo Animashaun, the CEO of Smooth Promotions, the entertainment firm that organizes The Headies award and publishes the weekly Hip Hop World Magazine, the channel is a product of anger and passion. In his words he said;
"We wanted to be that music channel that everyone watches. I started Hip TV eight years ago, with a lot of dedication, a lot of commitment, a lot of ANGER and passion. We wanted to absolutely KILL it in the entertainment scene."
It can be recalled that Hip TV was a scheduled programme on terrestrial TV stations for six years before launching on cable platforms DSTV and GOTV two years ago and in a market dominated by big players like MTV Base, Trace and Soundcity, it’s impressive that Hip TV has grown to become a force to reckon with, in just 24 months.
